Post-Christmas Update

We all went to my mom's house for Christmas Eve, and my sister got her little surprise ;) I waited until everyone had opened everything else then brought out an extra present.

Here's her face upon receiving her grail doll.

Grail for Christmas
She was trying to figure out why she got two gifts at this point. I think it also freaked her out how excited I was.

The mouth-agape shock I was looking for haha!

I think she loves him, no? She toted him around with her the rest of the evening... including having him sit with us through Christmas dinner. I was surprised the little guy didn't end up with gravy on his head.

I'm so happy I was able to pull this together for her. It was wonderful to see how happy she is with him :) She's still deciding on his name.

I also got a wonderful Christmas surprise. My husband was a sneaky Santa this year and I got to open up a Minifee Chloe on Christmas morning! I had no idea he had this in the works. The second I ripped off the paper, I got a whiff of that resiny goodness and knew what it must be inside there. She's adorable! I have no idea what I want to do with her yet though, since she wasn't really in the plans. She's also my first 1/4 sized doll, so I have nothing for her. She came with some el-cheapo 16mm blue acrylic eyes, but other than that, she's sitting around bald, blank, and naked. Poor thang. I haven't had a chance to photograph her yet, as we've had company up until today.

I also only have one more layaway payment on my Dollzone Freddy, so apparently I'll be working on these two together. How much fun is that?!

We had a very merry and dolly-filled Christmas over here this year :) I hope you all did as well!

baha gets a faceup

I found two half-cans of sealant left way back in my art cabinet, so I went ahead and redid Baha's face yesterday. Christmas is creeping closer and closer, and it just wouldn't do for him/her to look his/her best when I surprise my sister with him/her. (I don't know if my sis is going to want it to be a boy or a girl yet, so that's what's up with all the mixed pronouns). At my house, Baha is a girl... mostly due to complete and utter lack of boy clothing. My mother is supposed to be making some pants to match the freebie cape that came with the doll.

I tried to make it look as gender-neutral as possible, so I skipped the eyelashes. My sister tends to like her dolls having a less made-up look anyway. I managed to remove some of the yellowing as well, though the coloring is still more creamy than white. The arms and legs were hella kicky, so I did a quick sueding while the gloss on the face was drying. I've never seen S-hooks so small in my life...

As for website news, I got a few more pages up and running under the "Learn" tab :) Yay progress.

a new girl's on the way

Well, my sister's little Baha Kitty had left me with nothing but moths circling in my bank account, so I'd sort of given up on getting a DS Amara during their Christmas event this year. Well, guess what? Karma works folks.

I found a good deal on a Dollzone Freddy (v.1) and the seller was nice enough to work out a lenient layaway with me. She's on the DZ 008 female body. I still love Amara, but I'm even more excited about this one. I'd never considered Freddy before because 1.) It's usually portrayed as a male and 2.) It's discontinued so it didn't come up when I scrolled through the Dollzone page.

I mean, just think of all the potential there! That sculpt is so unique, as are a lot of Dollzone's dolls. I think the lips and jowls are what did me in. She's got such an creepy-beautiful vibe to her, I can't wait to experiment with it. I'm hoping to pay her off by the end of this month/beginning of next month. Maybe I'll have some Christmas money thrown my way or something ;)

Glass Eyes

I'll make a separate entry for these photos. Here are the 14mm glass eyes that came in last week. Figured while I was shooting Baha Kitty, I needed to go ahead and show these off.

Pipos Baha Kitty Arrival

That was fast... Baha Kitty has made his landing in Georgia. I did a little box opening for him while I was checking to make sure he arrived in one piece. My husband is supposed to be picking me up some sealant while he's out of town working, so I'm going to redo this guy's faceup soon. I may give him a little bit of a body blush as well, but I haven't decided.

As I mentioned in my last post, he will be my sister's surprise Christmas gift this year ;) She's wanted the Original Baha Kitty for as long as I can remember, but we could never find one. I can't decide if I want to wrap him back up after I'm done fixing him up or if I'd rather sit him somewhere for her to happen across. Like maybe yell "OMGosh Jenny! Come here, quick!" and then there he is. Anyways... on to the box opening ~

Le petite box. He didn't have his original box, so the small box didn't surprise me.

Inside was a crap ton of bubblewrap, a little baggie, a thank you note, and a bubblewrap cocoon.

This stuff did surprise me. He was listed as only including eyes. Nice.

A blue mummy.

Double wrapped that little critter.

And there he is! What a cutie! I did notice he had yellowed quite a bit, and whatever sealant was used on this faceup left his noggin shiny. But he's adorable nonetheless.

Had to dress him in his free clothes.

I tired the little guy out with my incessant photo taking.

Of course, had to let him meet Wren ;)

I can't wait to start on him. It'll be interesting to see what I can do with a cat ^^

The Elusive Baha Kitty...

Ok, my sister's absolute grail doll is an odd one... Piposland's first release Baha Kitty. For years, we've been looking for this little guy. I finally found one on a Facebook BJD sales page. Aaaaand, she doesn't know, but she's getting him for Christmas. He's not in perfect condition, but this is the first time I've seen the version she wants in a long time. Had to snatch him up for her. He's supposed to ship today.

I played a little evil. I told her I found one for sale, and she spazzed. Christmas has pretty much killed both of our bank accounts, so she told me to ask the seller for layaway. Instead, I bought it straight out. Told her the seller had already sold it, but hadn't taken it down yet. Technically, it's not a lie... I mean, it is sold... just to me.

Unfortunately, this purchase will probably dash any hope of me taking advantage of the Doll Leave's Christmas event. Little Amara will just have to wait a little longer, as this was important to me.

I hope she's as excited to get him as I am to give him!

a few more pages up and working

I've been working hard to get all the pages up and running today.

These pages are now up and running:
-About
-Dolls
-Learn
(Stringing Info, Improving Posability, Cleaning)
-Contact

I'm still working on the majority of the pages under the Learn tab, but we're getting there.

In doll-news, Wren's new glass eyes came in today, so expect a photoshoot soon ;)

We wish you a merry -and dolly filled- Christmas.

My obligatory Christmas Tree photoshoot with Wren ;)

Some Changes

I got an itch to work on my own website layout versus always using templates to customize. I whipped up this little layout from bare bones. It was interesting to find out how much coding knowledge has slowly leaked away from me over the years... But, I managed to get it somewhat presentable.

I'm most likely going to abandon my Tumblr blog. I've had it up to here with it's weird set-up. I'm trying to integrate my old Blogger account onto my website instead. I hope to eventually get the whole site up and running, but for now, mainly just the blog is functional. Baby steps.
